Method and citation

The index counts upcoming events that have live resale listings. Parking passes, events without a confirmed date and events without price data are left out. The entry price of an event is its lowest listed ticket before fees, and every group figure is a median. Weekly moves use events with at least 20 listings, so a single unusual listing cannot register as a market move.

Questions and answers

What is the Ticket Price Index?

It is a running summary of resale ticket prices, built from 191,106 upcoming events with live listings. For each event it takes the lowest listed price before fees, and reports the median of those prices by category, city and act.

What does typical entry price mean?

The entry price of an event is its cheapest listed ticket before fees. The typical entry price of a group, such as a city, is the median of the entry prices of all events in that group, so a few very expensive events do not distort it.

How often is the index updated?

The figures are recalculated several times a day from current listings. Weekly moves compare the current entry price of an event with its entry price about a week earlier.

Can I use this data?

Yes. You may quote the figures with a link to this page as the source. For the underlying data, the TicketsData API returns live listings and prices per event, and Event Radar tracks new events and price changes.
